37 pages of salary data… Should college grads negotiate a higher starting salary? Salaries in SCM are going up; already average $10K-$20K higher than entry-level positions in other fields. There are not enough young people working in supply chain.
People want more money & rewarding work (not paperwork). https://lnkd.in/g7BwX84c.

The Future of SCM: Predictive Analytics ranked #2! This class will now be required of every WMU supply chain major: CIS 2640 – Applied Analytics Foundations…Here is an example of a F500 firm that has full time SCM roles but also requires VERY strong Data Analytics skills (they love Tableau)…

This is interesting from Gartner. I posted this to get feedback from a few colleagues. It proceeded to get > 54K views (no idea why). I might use this in our entry level Intro to SCM course as subsequent classes line up nicely w/ the pieces in this model. Question: Where is Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRM)?

“There isn’t enough young people working in supply chain”…Note, there are not enough young people in general. Last year, deaths exceeded births in 1/2 of US states.

42 pages of salary data, the trend is good. On avg, SCM & logistics pros are making $126,215 in 2022, an increase from $112,779 in 2021, on par w/ 2020’s avg of $126,475. The median salary in 2022 is now $108,000. Another common theme: People want more money & rewarding work (not paperwork).

WSJ: U.S. suppliers’ price increases picked up (11.3%!) in June & remained near historic highs. Has Strategic Cost Mgmt (i.e., Price Analysis) become a lost art? Will you be ready when your supplier asks for a price increase?

Students who choose to specialize in their education are having better experiences than those who stay generalist. They also found that professors have the MOST influence on major (more than parents, friends, other students, high school figures, academic advisors, etc.).

I love it when lawyers talk about Supply Chain Management: It never hurts to think like a lawyer. That is why we make our students take a customized legal course. Is a law degree a good fit for SCM students (any advice from lawyers and/or SCM pros would be appreciated)?

Supply chain sage says stakeholders are wishing for return to normal that won’t happen. Notice the solution – “Digitized Supply Chains”. Can we get all the VP’s of SCM in one room & figure this out? From the sage:

Artificial intelligence can help manage the supply chain. So what’s the delay? The needed technology exists, but it’s not being used. 40% of employees at a company across all industries are using the data science & machine learning platforms their company provides. However, this number dips down to 21% when filtered for companies in the “logistics” industry.

There are surprisingly few “great” books on family business & succession. Many show up on Amazon, but I have found them to mostly repeat the basics that I think are laid out well in the following 3 books.
*60% of the US workforce is employed by a family-owned business.*78% of all new jobs in the US are created by family-owned businesses. *30% of family

What if you are a student that wishes to learn both Power BI and Tableau, but your instructor only covers one? Unfortunately covering both in 1 single class will not give either one a fair coverage. In the end, students won’t have good skills in visualization.
