Here is another rankings list. I have been getting a lot of questions from my students about how Gartner decides on the Top 25 SCM orgs (now they have a 26-50 list). I said, it’s complicated & no one appears to really know the exact details.

I said, it’s complicated & no one appears to really know the exact details. I think I understand the basics, but here is a great read on just how complicated it is (from 2021): https://lnkd.in/gdhsiRxq. Gartner's 26-50 Report at: https://gtnr.it/3AFhQB8...

I kid you not (for Michigan): “a 29.7% increase in demand for logisticians” & “The most in-demand, high-wage jobs will be operations managers, w/ an annual need of more than 6,500 & a wage of $29-72/hr”. HOWEVER, the greatest demand in the number of available jobs through 2030 is in LOW-wage jobs.

The gov spends way more than they bring in. Our national debt is way bigger than our annual GDP. From me (if this continues): we will pay higher taxes, get reduced benefits (that we paid into!), and/or the U.S. greenback stops being the global reserve currency. Uggh.

Another cool pic from Visual Capitalist. Theme: the gov spends way more than they bring in. Our national debt is way bigger than our annual GDP. Econ 101 says you cannot raise the standard of living unless you grow the economy, and you cannot grow the economy if there are not enough workers (especially young ones).

A 2018 report by Korn Ferry projected that, by 2030, the U.S. could experience unrealized revenue of $1.748 trillion due to labor shortages — equivalent to 6% of the country’s entire economy. I think it is going to be WAY worse because people are having WAY fewer kids. https://www.supplychainbrain.com/blogs/1-think-tank/post/35243-why-the-supply-chain-talent-shortage-isnt-letting-up FYI: Michigan's young population (0-25) has shrunk the MOST in the U.S. (-14%!). Birth rates have plunged in states where the 0-25 population...

Last month I had a student ask me why don’t all those shipping containers have smart phones attached to them? I said I am very certain some do. He asked what %? I was like a deer in headlights, no idea. I guessed & said < 1%. Per this article, I guessed well:

Did you know that 80% of the global goods trade is transported over sea? FYI: COSCO Shipping (#4 on list) is China’s state-owned shipping company. For context, Chinese state-owned enterprises have ownership stakes in terminals at five U.S. ports. https://www.visualcapitalist.com/worlds-largest-container-shipping-companies-2022/ Last month I had a student ask me why don’t all those shipping containers have smart phones attached to them? I said I am very certain some do. He asked what %? I...

What Is Driving U.S. Inflation amid a Global Inflation Surge?

Check out #3! Durables had a larger inflation contribution in the U.S. than in any other country in the OECD. “This strength in U.S. durable goods demand during the pandemic & recovery is unusual (hmmm)…Throughout most countries in the sample, consumers behaved as we would expect, cutting their spending on durable goods.” Hmmm. https://lnkd.in/gCg5vWut Inflation can occur when prices rise due to increases in production costs, such as raw materials and/or a...

It seems like U.S.+China= almost exactly 50% of many things (e.g., global GDP, global wealth, global mfg, global CO2 emissions, military spending, etc.). Chinese research: 27.2% (U.S.=24.9%) of the world’s top 1% most frequently cited research papers.

AI will likely have the greatest impact on SCM through the 2020s. However, one thing often not mentioned is the attitude of the hiring managers.

“Consulting firm McKinsey projects a supply-chain shattering event will happen every 3.7 years, on avg. Since the pandemic started approximately 2.5 years ago, the clock is ticking…” *orgs utilizing AI spend less on processing & require 53% fewer transactional FTEs than companies w/o AI. *Contract Analytics: Gartner - by 2024, the current amount of manual effort for contract review will be reduced by 50%. *Estimated 80% of supplier-related data is unstructured or “dark data.” ...
