Reminder: Effective in Feb 2023, CPIM will be reconfigured under version 8.0 moving from 2 courses & 2 exams to 1. Students: 3 supply chain orgs you can join (ISMworld.org-$35, CSCMP.org, $40 & ASCM.org for free!). SCM pros w/ at least 1 APICS cert have a median salary of $90K, which is 27% higher than those w/o a cert. (according to the 2021 Career Report). https://lnkd.in/eTfdkA94

I would highly encourage you to join orgs related to what you are majoring in. Send the message to employers that you plan on being an engaged member of your discipline. Also, these orgs have certs which can be used to externally validate you as a subject matter expert. Send the message to employers that you are aware of these certs & these certs are a part of your career goals.

Further, all these SCM orgs have monthly local chapter meetings w/ guest speakers that you can attend as a student. It is a great way to learn & network. I have had several students attend these mtgs & managers asked for a copy of their resume because these students showed so much initiative. You will also have access to their websites which has job postings & lots of SCM research that will help with your classes. Lastly, they will mail you magazines that tell you what is happening in your field so you can stay current.

My colleagues helped me put this list together for my non-supply chain majors. Industry Certifications & Associations for Various Business Majors: https://lnkd.in/gVbQV2q7

Here is one of the most popular orgs related to your major (especially if you go into procurement, though all 3 orgs have become very well rounded)…

If you are interested in training opportunities and certifications to help your career (or perhaps pass this on to a coworker), I want to inform you about some significant changes that ASCM is making in one of their core products and certifications – CPIM (CERTIFIED IN PLANNING AND INVENTORY MANAGEMENT).

ASCM is an international organization, originally founded as APICS in 1957. Duquesne University is an academic partner to deliver content from their library of courses. Currently CPIM is on version 7.0, which was delivered as two courses with two exams needed to be fully certified in CPIM 7.0.

Effective in February 2023, CPIM will be reconfigured under version 8.0 moving from two courses and two exams to one.

For any candidate who has taken CPIM 7.0, part one and is in progress toward your CPIM designation, we highly recommend that you continue with your current education plans and complete CPIM 7.0 part two – as waiting for the fully reconfigured exam will require…

According to the 2021 Supply Chain Salary and Career Report, supply chain professionals with at least one APICS certification have a median salary of $90,000, which is 27% higher than those without a certification.

Here is another great one for engineering students. I would highly recommend ASQ for them:

What if an employer asks why you joined ISM and/or CSCMP and/or ASCM? Answer: See above.  Say, “I wanted to stay current in my field. Also, down the road after graduation, I want to use these organizations to network and pursue certifications that externally validates me as a subject matter expert in SCM.” https://lnkd.in/gyACDRgc

I would give serious consideration to these moving forward in your careers.  In fact, for some of these, you can join while still in college.  They tend to be free and cheap for college students and allow you to professionally network before you even graduate. I think you want to send a message to employers that you want to stay current in your field and joining these orgs allows you to do so (resume material). Further, when you graduate, that you look forward to being an engaged member of these orgs and even taking on leadership roles.

Leading the way with Lean Six Sigma: WMU students earn certification. https://lnkd.in/g2VDbEPx. The ability to get certified in continuous improvement methodologies and Lean Six Sigma (LSS) techniques all before graduation is just one way students in the Haworth College of Business are preparing to become business leaders. A group of 13 graduate and 20 undergraduate students across the college’s academic programs had the opportunity to earn their LSS Yellow Belt Certifications this spring semester.

The LSS training, which focuses on continuous improvement (CI) techniques, is offered by the Center for Integrated Supply Management. The center intends to make the tools and skills for the methodology accessible to all. To receive the LSS Yellow Belt Certification, students had to meet training requirements and take a qualifying exam—which is the same exam that certifies industry professionals. Tom Kelly, faculty specialist and associate director of the Center for Integrated Supply Management, and Dr. Tom Scannell, professor of marketing, are LSS Black Belt-certified.
